A more nuanced variation of my "too many people think in black and white" complaint is "too many people assume they know the reasons someone else voted the way they did". This often seems to take the form of "Since you voted different than me, I assume you must disagree with me on my #1 issue (actually, every issue!); therefore, you are evil." (or maybe this is just people who post while losing their shit on the internet)
Alice's #1 issue may be abortion. Bob's #1 issue may be immigration. As a result of their positions on their #1 issue, they may have voted differently. But, guess what -- Alice and Bob may actually
agree on both issues (perhaps many issues!), but just prioritize them differently, resulting in voting differently. If Alice or Bob is part of the "blue bubble" that is being encouraged not to interact with anyone who voted the other way, they will never realize they actually agree on things.
Assuming you understand other people's motivations is stupid.
Isolating yourself from people you disagree with is stupid.
Isolating yourself from people you blindly assume you disagree with is really stupid!
