We just got notified that next year middle and high school students in our county's public schools will have to use clear backpacks. We are down to one kid for whom this will apply. Hopefully, clothes with pockets won't be banned before he graduates.

Less than 23 hours later, we get notified that "after further discussion" they have decided not to pursue this policy.

On a whim, my eldest got invited to try out for the UF programming team. He showed up 2 hours late because of a prior commitment, but with no practice scored in the top 10 and qualified. In his words: "Not bad for an astrophysics student."

It's the 2nd week of school and my freshman got evacuated from school today. This is our 7th year of having kids in high school and I think it is our first full evacuation (as in sending them home).

Oh, wow, I had no idea. I appear to live in an area graded as B, if I'm judging the colors correctly. The biggest "crimes" I have experienced in the 10 years I've lived in this house are having my mailbox knocked over and some shrubs driven through.

All those stats are per capita and I have to wonder if they only count the "permanent" population and exclude the rather large student population that comes and goes.

Yeah, I noticed their "partner" too. I did pull up the closest big city, ,Jacksonville, and they rates a B-, so they don't rate everyone an F. Still, the west half of the county looks like oasis of green when you zoom out. I also don't know if they are grading only within city limits or the greater metro area. I don't actually live in city limits.
