This has a nice animation showing the path. Looks like we will be in the penumbra for 3 hours with a peak coverage of 55%. Unfortunately, if the cloud cover does not clear up today, we won't see anything but a dimming of the light.

I can see it! Clouds are about 70%, but if I'm patient I'm able to see through.

We have scattered clouds, so the openings come and go. Direct viewing is pretty easy. Every once in a while, I can get my camera set up in time to take a picture before the next cloud. I need three hands. One to hold my phone, one to hold the film seems to look better if not directly on the lens, and one to manage the controls. Half the time I fumble the controls and have to start over.

What can be neat is you have a relatively flat surface with a leafy, but not solid tree canopy overhead such that you get speckled light among the shadows. During an eclipse, all those spots of light turn into crescents of light. A tree full of pin-hole cameras. I'll have to look for something like that when I go back out.

Looking through the glasses, the sun looks so sharp. The cell phone images at 10x zoom look pathetic by comparison. I wish I had thought to take some w/o the zoom. It occurred to me at the time that it would have been useful to practice doing this in advance. I never think to learn how to take good pictures in certain situations in advance of those situations.
