Last year, if you expressed any concern about the economy as a result of all the business closures, you were considered a heartless bastard who just wanted people to die. My daughter seemed to think that the economy was "just money." I used to ask if the entire population hid out in their basements collecting government checks and ordered things online to be delivered by drone, who was producing those things?
I'm now wondering how much of the growing shortages are a long-delayed result of all those shutdowns and the continued unwillingness of millions to go back to work. It isn't just that production part of the economy, but distribution as well. I read that in the UK that there is such a truck driver shortage than the military might be called in to start driving trucks. Someone mentioned the other day that there was a shipping backlog off the coast of California. I haven't looked into it, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was due to a shortage of labor to unload them.
While some will cheer on the collapse of the "capitalist economy," unless you are a self-sufficient farmer, I'd be careful what you wish for.
