Built on goTenna Mesh BETA Details:Compatability built on goTenna Mesh is now available for BETA testing! Using InsaneRockets app built on goTenna Mesh allows live telemetry information to be transmitted on the 900MHz band while airborne on 15 second intervals.
In addition, your launching phone does not need to have cell service, and your receiving phone will receive all telemetry information, including landing GPS location. GoTenna Mesh requires two phones, each with a goTenna Mesh device connected via bluetooth. The two goTenna Mesh devices then communicate to each-other on the 900MHz band.
While people have reported over 20 miles distance with line of site in the country, I have only personally tested in a launch rocket up to 12,000 feet and had no problems with communication.
How does it work? Think of goTenna Mesh as a 900MHz transmitting and receiving antenna.
The InsaneRockets app creates customized packets to transmit through goTenna Mesh. One phone with goTenna Mesh is installed in the rocket for telemetry information and video record. A second phone, in your hand with another goTenna Mesh is used at launch control, receives the packets and displays the telemetry and optionally speaks the information.
My customized receiving app in your hand then displays the telemetry information. You can also initiate a launch sequence to insure video recording starts on the launch phone prior to takeoff, this also can optionally initiate video recording from the phone in your hand so you get full video from both rocket and ground of the event!
SetupIn order to use the
BETA feature first you must have access to goTenna Mesh units. They are sold in pairs.
