Printing a huge commissioned castle for a friend, @Brian Tui. This model will test things and give the printer a solid workout before adding enclosure.

Two objects are to be printed. The first is the castle base and consumes just over a KG of material.

The second is the castle itself also consuming just over a KG of material. I'll have to wait before printing second part as I just ordered more filament to print it with.

Did you print tests for the fill ratio? This is a display-only piece so all you need really are the walls. The interal could be entirely hollow. 1 KG is a LOT of filament to send trough on a 0.4 mm bottleneck!

How long did the base take? Was this using higher temp materials or the same materials you used before the upgrade?

Gigantic.
=((287*290)/8)/3600 = 2.9 hours per layer, multiply that (432/0.2) = 250 hours.

Of course the printer is probably faster than 8 mm^2 per second, and the print is not the full 287x290x432 volume. The print height could be taller than 0.2 mm.. So, takes about half of that, six days?

This is just standard PLA filament. Good guess FourOh, correct on six days. I've already found several issues that I prefer resolved before building enclosure. Solid test.

Printer height set to 0.2mm for nice resolution.

I am new to 3D printing, and I print stuff only for industrial use, The first thing I learned was that going below 0.2 - thinner layers and smaller nozzles increase print time with filaments considerably.

Six days is something I would never even start printing. There are just too many things that could go wrong.
Speaking of which, I am going to replace one of my aging Ender3 with a brand new one, and thinking about using this Vanadium nozzle from the start. What do you think?

It's amazing the detail you can pull out if you go below 0.2 mm, but you're right, print time gets crazy long. Sometimes it is worth it, but I don't see much industrial application except maybe small gears.

The longest print job I have performed in a single pass is 8 days. I had one issue when it was printing, edited the script to continue where it had the issue and it continued without problem.

Would you be getting the entire hotend from Slice/Vanadium or just the nozzle? It looks like it can handle the abrasive print filaments with no problem - and it prints fast! I can't imagine not printing with abrasives, like carbon fiber- I use carbon fiber based filaments all the time for their strength and industrial application.

For nozzles:
The two nozzles I have used are E3D Nozzle X for Volcano, with excellent success. NozzleX can't handle the high temperatures of PEEK, PEKK, and Ultum.

The second is the one I just purchased for PEEK, PEKK and Ultum Carbon Fiber, the Hercules hardened steel nozzle. So far I've used it to test print carbon fiber polycarbonate and PLA and experienced no problems.

The e3D Volcano not going to mount on the hot end Ender 3 ships, and I am not going to change hot-ends on Enders.

I am going to save money to select and buy a USA-made printer maybe next summer, this year I want to complete my network infrastructure including Hubzilla secondaries, and learn basic PHP - I am really hurting in OpenSCAD because I do not have coding skills.

Eventually I would like to design my models and build fully scripted to industry standards, like all flat panels sized to steel stocks for punch-pierce passes, dovetails, extrusions, screws nuts and bolts all the same way. I still need to learn how to build and apply scripted libraries.

Editing gcode mid-print - holy macro, you really know what you are doing. Thanks for posting!

I do not use anything else but some sort of PLA+, don't particularly care about filament qualities yet.

Nice.

I was just showing what I currently have w/ volcano, not suggesting you to adapt volcano to your setup. The stuff from Slice looks top notch and has nice ratings.
