Here's the details as to what SRA is doing in attempt to resume launch services:
Addressing the happening at the last scheduled launch of January 16th.
The City of Palm Bay decided to crack down an all of the illegal uses of the “Compoundâ€. This included the ATV's running wild in the area by driving unregistered vehicles on the City Streets, speeding on the streets (there is a 30 mph speed limit on all of the Compounds roads), blocking the roads, tearing up the private properties of the lots in the Compound, drag racing on the streets, drifting on the streets, shooting firearms within the city limits, bonfires unattended, unrestrained parties and drinking, leaving huge amounts of trash, other illegal actives, causing traffic accidents with injuries and deaths, harassing people who are using the area peaceably, and possible murders.
Our launch event was caught up in the Police shutting all activity down in the area and continuing the shutdown of actives are on land without the express permission of the land owners. The Police also stated that we can't launch rockets from city streets (we are looking into that).
What is the Board of Directors doing in the interim to restore the launch area is the following:
*Trying to get land owner permission to use their adjacent lots.
*Getting with the Police to define blocking the road's so that only using one lane of the road(s) for the launch pads would unblock the road for Emergency Vehicle access?
*Getting with the Fire Department about the definition of launching rockets from the roads (what NFPA regulation is applicable for model, high power rockets, and not fireworks).
*Getting Special Permits to block the road for a recurring event. Might be cost prohibited.
*Relocation the launch pads to the two cul-de-sac's to the East, thus not blocking a through roads. This would mean that if we can get to launch off the asphalt the pads would be 15', 50', 100', 200' and 500' (may have a problem with the closeness to the roads to the East and West).
*Searching for another permanent launch area. A long and hard path to accomplish.
