I launched yesterday with Spaceport Rocketry Association at their special event that takes place at Port Saint Lucie Fairgrounds. Above ground altitude achieved was 5636 feet (1717 meters) with a max velocity of 567MPH (912km/h).
Weather in the morning was excellent, but my rocket wasn't prepared as the forecast from previous night showed massive rain. By the time I launched @11:25AM, the clouds were closing in. We waited about 15 minutes for the sky to clear and allowed all kinds of launches ahead of mine.
Launch was excellent, and recovery was easy in mowed grass.
Both main and backup computers performed nominally, all voltages maintained throughout duration.
Drogue deployed at apogee, main deployed at 700 feet.
This concludes stress testing the electronics, the motor (J540-R) had quite a nice punch and was loud.
It was great seeing all my south Florida friends again. I'm glad I was able to make it.

Someone (me) sure did put a nice paint job on that rocket, I can see the reflection of the fins in the airframe :-D This is the small 12 inch drogue parachute that deployes at apogee. This allows a rapid, but non-ballistic descent of 65ft/s (20 meters per second). When the rocket is 700 feet (213 meters) above the ground, main parachute deploys and slows the rocket to a gentle and safe 20ft/s (6 meters per second). By having the drogue deploy at higher altitudes, the rocket does not drift as far.
