The fez is a JoCo Cruise tradition going back to either the first or second cruise (it was already a thing when we went on the 3rd cruise). Each cruise has a formal event, once called the Fez and Moustache Formal, now called the Fancy Headwear and Moustache formal. My wife has created 3 sets of fezzes over the years. We had orange ones with UF Gator logos, we had David Bowie Aladdin Sane memorial fezzes, and we have these space-themed fezzes. Unfortunately, there is an anti-fez movement in the community because the fez is associated with oppression (what isn't?), so who knows what the future of the fez is on the cruise. There is also an anti-Florida movement in the community, so if I want to piss off people, I could wear my UF fez next year.
