#^Omicron surge is causing far less hospitalization than Delta did, South Africa minister says: 1.7% instead of 19%Only about 1.7% of COVID-19 cases are being hospitalized, a fraction of the figure seen during the Delta wave, per the health ministry.
Still looking relatively promising in South Africa, but there are significant demographic differences between South Africa and where we live. There is also still the risk over-running hospitals with 1/10th of the hospitalization rate, if there are 20 or 30 times the active infections. Given the start of a massive spike in infections in Florida attributed to Omicron, I don't think it will take much longer to find out how this is going to play out.
