Today I took the corrector plate out the C14 for cleaning inside and out. At the same time I flocked the C14 inner tube, had that laying around anyway. All came out great and clean. Next is to modify the dew shield with cooling fans. Dew shield is from my Meade LX200 14" that I unfortunately sold, if this all turns out ok then I might cut a tree down. But first the electronics have to work great.

Well after all is done, electronics, cooling, balancing etc, then the collimation, that can be very tricky.. and time consuming, will probably take a few nights...

You mentioned computer controls. Do you also capture images via computer? It seems like it would really be handy for something like a long exposure during inconvenient hours.

Yes planetary imaging and deep sky, there is a difference how you capture the images, planetary captures are Avi's, like 60/sec over 3 minutes (= 10000 frames) depends on the rotation time of the planet, select the best bmp files (from the avi) and stack those, apply a bunch of image processing software and voila... Deep sky are just single exposures, exposure time depends on your light pollution. Take as many as you can even over e period of days., apply darks, flats and bias frames (subtract), and select the best images and stack,, apply some image processing software and voila !
