It goes even deeper than this. After World War II, political parties across the world, including the Democrats and Republicans, saw how effective Hitler and other dictators were at manipulating the people. A lot of the tactics that Hitler used are now being used against us for the same reasons: to manipulate us and to consolidate power. The only difference is that they are smart enough not to start a war they cannot win and they are playing the long game.

I'm not so sure about that. They keep poking the bear. I guess "they" might win, but a lot of us little people would lose in the process.
