#^Microsoft is Forcing me to Buy MacBooks - Windows Modern Standby

For the last THREE years Windows laptops have been plagued by terrible battery drain while the user ISN'T EVEN DOING ANYTHING. It's gotten to the point where we can't recommend using a Windows laptop because of Windows Modern Standby.

TL;DR: Possible solution: unplug your laptop before putting it to sleep.

Microsoft/intel changed to using s0 sleep- net connected sleep- was introduced by intel w/ project athena = insant wake = cpu always on = not really sleeping. It uses s0 sleep if plugged in vs s3 when unplugged!!! And, they video says many bios don't implement S3 sleep properly so your system crashes when trying to perform an s3 sleep - wonderful.

And this has been a bug for years...

Check out the pinned comment posted yesterday by a dev at microsoft. They may actually fix this.

After a similar experiences before (I think) Windows Modern Standby existed, I stopped using sleep mode. If moving around the office, I just left it on. If packing up to go home, I turned it off. I shared this with my daughter who says she uses hibernate mode instead.

Microsoft forced me to switch to Linux in 2010 with their "You are the victim of counterfeit software so we will now lock down your computer for you".
This helped me to understand that one does not own Windows.. One is simply agreeing to let Microsoft manage a computer in exchange for convenience.
