I was eating a cinnamon roll this morning and I started thinking about what it would take to make a cinnamon roll "cake". A round cake 12" in diameter and 6" high. I don't know if it would even be practical. Then I thought about how, if you cut the cake in wedges, it the layers of roll would probably try to fall apart. My next idea was to basically turn things on their side. What if you didn't make it as a roll, but instead made it in layers like you would do with a layer cake. Of course, with a layer cake, you bake the layers before assembling it, so this could be challenging to do with raw dough. With this orientation, cutting wedges wouldn't have the problem of separation. I suspect in either orientation, the thickness of the cake would be an issue as far as baking goes. I'm not much of a cooker or baker, so this was all just a thought experiment while enjoying a decadent treat.
