These rust guys are always saying stuff like 'state of the art', 'faster', 'more secure', 'more efficient' like they are running for political office or something, :)

Agreed, it gets old.

Low level languages like C/C++? Definitely as fast, but extremely safe in comparison.

Higher level languages like Go/Java/C#? (regarding more secure) Maybe - I don't have enough experience (yet). It all comes down to design decision outlined in chapter 4: #^https://doc.rust-lang.org/book/ch04-01-what-is-ownership.html That fundamental design is magnified when using more complexity (such as threading) as outlined in chapters 15 and 16.
The lack of requiring garbage collector but giving the same functionality as Go/Java/C#/etc is definitely nice.

I've made some web apps in Go, it's OK but not my favorite I guess. I've been using Java lately and it's pretty much the only truly cross-platform system with a painless GUI toolkit. Java can run on pretty much anything. Also building web applications with Tomcat is pretty easy. Kotlin is pretty good too. I like C# but it's not so great on non-windows systems in my opinion. Since .NET 5 (it hink, maybe 4 too?) it is an "open source" (.NET 6 is out now), It's not likely that you can easily switch a desktop app over to Linux using .NET 6 but maybe? I have made one GUI app in C# using GTK on FreeBSD and the reality of porting it over to an MS Windows machine is - it sucks. But I think an interesting feature of having an open source .NET is creating ASP pages that run on IIS/MS Windows or Linux, FreeBSD, etc on Nginx or Apache. If you're a sadist and love ASP I guess lol. I haven't tried it yet but maybe it's cool?

@Waitman Gobble I've used both Rocket and Actix-web frameworks in rust for some time now. While I like both frameworks, I seem to be more drawn towards Actix-web - maybe it is because of the all of the support libraries around it or its clean design. It could simply be because of the use cases I have been exposed to at work. It's only a slight lean though, and I do like Rocket and its features like templating and rich set of built in function.
