I forget the company name, but I think you are right about one of their sub-assembly contractors being there.

When I worked for Grumman in Stuart, FL, 767 center section sub-assembly happened there. I never worked on parts for that project.

I wasn't saying 'dumb' to be mean lol. I developed a course for 5 days and used it in companies all over the country. (Small and large co's like Genie and even JPL). In witchita we did not make it even half way through the 5 day course in 5 days.

Virtually all manufacturing in the USA is done by "uneducated" people. Engineers with college degrees generally work cush jobs in large corporations and couldn't make a simple bracket out of sheet metal. But there are a lot of sharp/smart "shop rats" albiet uneducated who design and make almost everything. In my 20's i was designing and making stuff for companies like AT&T and Broadcom. (As an uneducated shop rat)

My Grumman job was a summer job that was part of a college scholarship. I was an engineering major in computer science, but I started on the shop floor because they wanted us to understand the realities of actually building the things we might someday design. I actually spent two summers on the shop floor instead of one, due to a mistake. The first was in the "weld shop" which built things like part racks and drill press tables and the second was doing aircraft sub-assembly. It was hard, hot work (Florida summer with nothing but fans to cool the work areas), but I enjoyed it.
