Compared to what? Is there some other treatment/preventative in Brazil being suppressed in favor of its use? Or, to put it another way, is anyone actually worse off because of its use?

Based on the data shown here, it looks to have had an significant impact in some Brazilian cities a year ago where it was widely used. I don't recall Brazil being discussed in the conversation, so I don't really have anything I can add that is Brazil-specific.

It has been massively used in Brazil and the cities that prescribed it to whole populations had worse outcomes than other similar cities that didn't. Cities were distributing a so called "covid kit" with ivermectine, chroloquine, zinc and vitamin D to everyone. The use was so massive that there is just no way a significant effect wouldn't have shown systematically.

The data on the site you link is bogus. The Porto Feliz case in Brazil is part of a known hoax. Some data show correlations because some cities by mere chance started distributing ivermectine at a moment when the first wave was spontaneously coming to an end. If you compare it to other similar cities at the same stage, cities distributing ivermectine were worse off. It probably should have been the same, except that it additionally promotes carelessness.

Whatever it is, it is not "an incredible story" and the "crime of the century" is suggesting it works. There is no trustworthy evidence of positive effects and definitely only worsened the situation from people believing there is some sort of cure, becoming careless and accepting that the government not go after vaccines.

Because Brazil is the epicenter of this insanity, there are very good articles in Porutuguese about it, and I have never had to look for articles in English, so I can't easily point to any. Not surprisingly, every single city that managed to significantly slow down the pandemic in Brazil did the same thing : a lockdown.
