Without a doubt these are the finest wood inlays I've ever seen. This was done by somebody in Vietnam using hand tools -- and I was told by the vendor that he received USD $20 for his work.

I've had this for many years now. It's a 'Phoenix' and very rare. Most of these guitars spontaneously split or broke after importation because of the humidity differential between California and Vietnam, where they were manufactured. This is the only one I know of remaining and the only one I know of that didn't break in some dramatic way. It also has a beautiful and warm sound. The guy I got it from was a tech refugee who went into the music business in the early 00's - much like myself. He started with these superb guitars and that effort crashed and burned due to the unanticipated product breakage. Then he spent a few years importing school band instruments from China. Mark is now running a supply firm called Proteus Industries bringing in industrial manufactured goods from Vietnam. There's also now a different company called Phoenix Guitar Company and the original Phoenix Guitars (Aptos) is gone, subsumed by Proteus. So this case, two or three completely different Phoenixes arose from the ashes. It is not for sale at any price. I'm not hoarding it, but I also can't part with it. Every few years I share a photo and the back-story because it is a truly amazing work of fine art that deserves to be shared.
